Protection Relay Replacement Project

Kanwar Engineering has been entrusted with the task of replacing Siemens and GE protection relays across multiple pump stations in Canada and the USA for pipeline client. This project aims to enhance the safety, reliability, and operational efficiency of the pump stations by upgrading legacy relay systems with modern, advanced protection technologies. The replacement will address issues of obsolescence, improve fault detection capabilities, and ensure compliance with current industry standards.

Scope of Work:

• Assessment and Planning:

  • Conduct a detailed evaluation of the existing Siemens and GE protection relay infrastructure at all identified pump stations.

  • Document current relay settings, wiring diagrams, and associated protection schemes.

  • Identify compatibility requirements for new relays with existing switchgear, transformers, and control systems.

  • Develop a comprehensive replacement plan, including a phased rollout to minimize downtime.

• Design and Engineering:

  • Design protection schemes tailored to each pump station's operational requirements, incorporating modern relays with advanced features like IEC 61850 communication, event recording, and enhanced fault analysis.

  • Ensure compliance with local regulations, utility standards, and the latest industry practices in both Canada and the USA.

  • Prepare detailed wiring diagrams, protection logic, and relay settings for implementation.
