Power System Studies Projects

Kanwar Engineering undertakes multiple power system studies for diverse infrastructure projects, including substations, oil& gas facilities, pump stations, and compressor stations using advanced analytical tools like ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, PSCAD, and CDEGS software. These studies aim to ensure operational efficiency, compliance with safety standards, and the seamless integration of new and existing systems.

Some of the projects are listed below:

1. Power System Studies for 32 Pump Stations

​

Analyze the power distribution systems for high-capacity 32 pump stations to ensure reliability, stability, and safety.

  • Deliverables:

    • Load flow analysis.

    • Short-circuit studies to determine fault currents and specify protective device ratings.

    • Protective device coordination considering transformer, bus, feeder, and motor protection.

    • Arc flash analysis to ensure personnel safety and compliance with IEEE-1584, CSA-Z462, and NFPA 70E standards.

2. Power System Studies for Multiple Compressor Stations

​

 Evaluate and improve the electrical systems of compressor pump stations for enhanced operational performance.

  • Deliverables:

    • Load flow analysis.

    • Short-circuit studies to determine fault currents and specify protective device ratings.

    • Protective device coordination considering transformer, bus, feeder, and motor protection.

    • Arc flash analysis to ensure personnel safety and compliance with IEEE-1584, CSA-Z462, and NFPA 70E standards.

3. Effective Grounding and Temporary Overvoltage (TOV) Study

Perform effective grounding system evaluation and TOV studies to ensure safety and system integrity during fault conditions.

  • Deliverables:

    • TOV analysis to determine the impact of switching transients and fault conditions on equipment insulation.

    • Recommendations for grounding improvements, including the use of zig-zag transformers or neutral reactors to meet utility requirements.

    • Detailed grounding design to mitigate overvoltages and improve fault detection.

4. Grounding Study Using CDEGS Software

Assess and design grounding systems for various installations using advanced simulations.

  • Deliverables:

    • Soil resistivity measurements and modeling.

    • Ground potential rise (GPR) analysis to ensure safety for personnel and equipment.

    • Touch and step voltage analysis to comply with IEEE and IEC standards.

    • Optimized grounding system design, including grid layout and conductor sizing.

    • Reports detailing results, recommendations, and compliance checks.

5. Motor Starting Study

 

Evaluate the impact of starting large motors on electrical systems to ensure operational stability.

  • Deliverables:

    • Analysis of voltage dips and system transients during motor starting.

    • Recommendations for soft starters or VFDs to minimize starting impact.

    • Coordination with upstream equipment to avoid disturbances in the system.​​
